Mar 28, 2010 · Driveshaft fluid change. I drained the driveshaft gear oil on my 2006 VTX 1300C. Soupy grey and watery,not a lot in there. I used Valvoline Durablend synthetic 80w-90w gear oil in my 97 1100c Shadow Spirit. It's typical for the final drive fluid to be grey/black, as it has molybedenum added to it at assembly. Just changing the oil is pretty straight forward. Pull the front wheel. Loosen the top fork plugs. Loosen the triple clamp bolts. Pull the fork legs out (one at the time). Mark them left and right. Pull the top fork plugs off. Drain the oil. Flush 3 times with AFT - drain well between flushes - especially the last one.
