M50 manual cars got ZF and Getrag M30 manual cars came with Getrags. From what I have read the ZF is the more sought after and stronger trans for the M50. M30 cars come with the Getrag 260 and it is pretty much bulletproof. Not as strong as the 265 but, still a great trans.That black plate is the shift carrier. It's the early version. May 16, 2017 · I was under the impression that all E30 Getrag 260/5 did have the plastic cap, and the one-piece-metallic was used in E34 Getrag 260/6 and others. So then you might encounter the one-piece-metallic on late E30's then. I only have some theories why this actually happens (would like in the future to chop up a Getrag 260/5 and have a closer look). You really need access to a press to do it all properly, and a 30mm thin walled deep socket (I made one) to undo the output shaft nut. The shift shafts can be a bit of a pain though.

If this your m52 swapped e30, your getrag 260 is not going to be a bolt on replacement for your m40 getrag 240, as it will sit on an angle and require a little fab work for the transmission mount.
