That being said i do tend to sneak/avoid combat as much as possible, especially in the early game, so hearts arent as important for my playstyle. If you're pretty good at avoiding damage (either good at fighting ot avoiding combat) then stamina is better. It lets you explore easier and you can shoot arrows mid-air for longer. You can always eat cooked hearty food for more hearts, but then again you can also cook 1 endura ingredient and recover full stamina as well.
