Bandos is pretty much the best in slot melee armor for general purpose. Other melee armors have higher defence, but lack the strength and prayer bonus. I would say yes, get Bandos, there's not much you're going to be able to buy for the cost that's going to be better, even if you bought a cheaper armor and a torture ammy.

Kree is ok with a tbow, just step under 1:1 trade hits. Significantly worse than chinning, especially if off task. Do not shoot Graador with a twisted bow, you will have better results with a crossbow.
