A church seeking to be missional in its relationship to the social, religious, economic, and political environment will persistently pursue a culture of innovation. Its ability to do this will be dictated by the capacity of its leadership. The missional capacity of a church is directly related to its capacity for innovation. The missional church attempts to construe the gospel and salvation more “holistically” or “comprehensively” than evangelicals have traditionally done, believing that the gospel is a proclamation “not merely” of individual salvation but also of reconciliation, justice, peace, healing, liberation, and love for the entire world.
