Adjusting floats on holley carb.
When you replace the needle and seat, pull the bowl off and turn it upside down, when the level is correct, a 1/2" drill bit should "just" fit between the top of the float and the top of the bowl, and "look" perfectly level. Once you put it back on, you can fine tune the float level, but it should be pretty close.

Many carburetors have a transfer slot that aids the carburetor in its transition to wide open. If the throttle plate position is too far up (and into the transition slot) your idle quality will be low and the car might stumble at the starting line.
