The transformed mode on the axe will be your range weapon. R2 "spin to win" will save you in many fights. 2.Church pick and BoM make an amazing pair for a skill build. They complement each other so well. Other notable choices are Burial Blade (locked behind the endgame), Rakuyo, Saw spear, Rifle spear, Threaded cane, and Beasthunter saif.Rifle Spear is in Old Yharnam and it's a SKL weapon. Personally, I feel like the Saw Cleaver and Spear are fantastic beginning game weapons, but their scaling never seemed to hold up to the later game weapons.
