Experienced a 30 minute backup on I77 North as we approached the VA / WV state line due to traffic slowing at Big Walker Mountain. I noticed a lot of cars returning to the highway near the mouth of the tunnel. Apparently there is a way to bypass the slowed traffic on I77 North. Any advise will be appreciated.The engineer’s estimate to cut through the Big Walker Mountain revealed that the cut would be 150 m (500 feet) deep and would require the removal of nearly 9.2 million cubic meters (12 million cubic yards) of material. It was then estimated that to tunnel through the Big Walker Mountain that only a fraction of material would have to be removed.
