Mar 15, 2021 · ForteGT2. When my daughter's 2010 Forte wouldn't shift out of park it turned out to be TWO things. First was the shift cable bushing broke into little pieces and the neutral safety switch wasn't engaged. Second was we found out the bumper for the brake light switch had also broken into little pieces. I have a 96 Kia Sportage and I have the same problem. At first it was fairly easy to get it to come out of park by insert a key in the hole, but the more we have done this the harder it has become now.
