The bushing on the rear of the control arm had worn to the point that when the control arm shifted forward, there would be metal to metal contact.Go to a an open area and go around in figure 8's lock to lock on the steering wheel. If the clicking sound comes when you near the full turn of the steering wheel, its your axle shafts. As far axles shafts going "dry" its a bunch of BS. If you ever tear a CV boot, you will know.
